Article of the Week // The Truth About Germs

“Like plant seeds, germs need the proper environment to become recognizable diseases.”
“Germs don’t cause disease anymore than cars cause automobile accidents.”
Germs are everywhere. The “germ theory” that most people use to explain disease, is a carry-over from the early 1800s. These microscopic organisms are one of the most misunderstood aspects of health. The viruses and bacteria we call germs are everywhere. They’re in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. They can only result in disease when our bodies provide a hospitable environment for them to reproduce.
For example, let’s say you inhale some tuberculosis germs. Just because these germs are present does not mean you will get tuberculosis. It depends upon many factors, such as the health of your lungs, the function of your immune system, and your overall health. The nervous system controls the proper function (health) of your lungs and all the other tissues and organs of your body. That’s why we are so keenly interested in the integrity of your nervous system. If the presence of germs automatically caused disease, you would have a constant head cold and suffer from a chronic case of the flu.
Colds and Flu
The common cold is associated with viruses that affect the nose, throat, larynx (voice box) and sinuses. That means stuffed and runny nose, scratchy throat, watery eyes, stuffed sinuses and congestion: the usual. Breathing in cold vi-ruses does not in itself cause a cold. “If you try to give someone a cold, for example it takes more than a virus. Ex-perimenters have incubated cold viruses, placed them directly on the mucous lining of the nose, and found that their subjects came down with colds only 12 percent of the time. For germs to grow in you, you must first be fertile soil.
Chiropractic doesn’t treat the common cold. However, people under chiropractic care have noticed that their natural resistance to colds increases and Chiropractors often hear people tell them that. “I haven’t had a cold (or if I get a cold I get over it so much faster) since I’ve been under chiropractic care. Natural resistance is the only reason why your cold “goes away” rather than lasting for weeks, months or your entire lifetime! Chiropractic care can help raise your natural resistance to disease by removing a serious interference to your proper body function: vertebral subluxations.
